Layup builder redesign and a fuller constants readout

Keyboard shortcuts for display preferences. Press ? for the list: cycle units, notation and builder layout, or adjust decimals without the mouse
D-matrix treatment option on the plate and beam tools. Unsymmetric laminates (B ≠ 0) can be analysed with the reduced bending stiffness D̃ = D - B·A⁻¹·B, which folds membrane-bending coupling into an effective bending stiffness instead of ignoring it
A fuller Engineering Constants readout: restrained-contraction moduli (Ex,r, Ey,r, Gxy,r and their flexural counterparts) for a strip inside a wide panel rather than a free coupon, the non-dimensional plate parameters βD, νD, γD and δD, and a coupled-constants toggle for unsymmetric laminates
Rotate and Reverse stack in the layup builder: offset every ply angle (presets, slider or typed value) or turn the laminate over. Both live in a new collapsible Layup options panel alongside the entry helpers and Paste, Copy and Clear. They edit the plies themselves, so a saved laminate holds exactly what the table shows
New result preferences under Account > Preferences: report Safety Factor or Margin of Safety (MS = SF - 1), and round conservatively so a displayed number never overstates safety (0.9951 shows as 0.99). Display only, calculated results are untouched
v1.6.2
Fabric weave presets and analysis fixes
September 1, 2026
Unit system handling on input fields and result displays. Values now convert with the selected unit system, so a number is always read and shown in the unit printed next to it. Worth re-checking any saved work entered outside SI
Picking a weave in the fabric lamina builder no longer trips a validation error
First Ply Failure now shows the per-ply failure index at the governing position, so it matches the ply stresses printed next to it
The beam tool labels its maximum bending stress as a homogenized value, with a note on reading per-ply stresses instead
Copied results now use plain ASCII names (vxy, e0x, ue) instead of symbols, so they paste cleanly into spreadsheets and scripts
v1.6.1
Failure analysis fixes, and laminate import/export
August 25, 2026
Progressive Failure no longer reports events past the point the laminate model stays valid, which was inflating the last ply failure load on unsymmetric layups, so those are worth re-running. First matrix failure and first fiber failure are now shown alongside first and last ply failure
First Ply Failure no longer says the laminate has failed when only the matrix has cracked. It now names the mode and points to Progressive Failure for the load the laminate actually carries
Laminates can now be exported and imported as JSON. Copy and paste a layup straight out of the builder, or move whole laminates between accounts from the laminates list, with any missing laminas created on the way
v1.6.0
Get your data in and out
August 22, 2026
Copy any results table straight into a spreadsheet, in your own units and precision. Every plot can be copied as an image
Export materials to CSV or JSON, and import them back - column headers are matched for you, with a preview before anything is saved
v1.5.0
Charts everywhere, and Progressive Failure out of beta
August 17, 2026
Progressive Failure has left beta - the analysis has been validated and is now a standard part of the toolset
Failure envelopes on First Ply Failure - the safe load region drawn for the selected criterion, with your applied load plotted on it
Load-strain curve for a progressive failure run, showing each failure event as a knee in the laminate response
Through-thickness stress and strain plots, per-ply failure index bars, and a layup cross-section with ply angles
Polar plots of the engineering constants, so you can read stiffness against fiber direction at a glance
Carpet plots for Ex, Ey, Gxy and vxy, plus a fiber volume fraction sweep
Laminate Load now shows the deformed shape and the per-ply contribution to laminate stiffness side by side
v1.4.1
Bug fixes and polish
August 14, 2026
Corrected unit labels and displays across the laminate and structural tools, including unit legends on the ABD and compliance matrices and strain input in µε
Security hardening of authentication endpoints, including rate limiting
Many smaller accuracy, consistency, and display fixes throughout the app
v1.4.0
Ply stresses, progressive failure, and core materials
August 10, 2026
Ply Stresses & Strains tool - stress and strain at the top, middle, and bottom of every ply, in global (x-y) or ply-local (1-2) coordinates
Progressive Failure analysis (beta) - steps the load from First Ply Failure through to Last Ply Failure, degrading each failed ply and rebuilding the laminate stiffness at every step
First Ply Failure now evaluates each ply at its top, middle, and bottom instead of the midplane only, and reports the governing position - under bending the extreme fiber can fail first, so earlier results could under-predict failure
Core is now a full material type alongside Fiber, Matrix, and Lamina - create, edit, and manage core materials in your library, with a standard library seeded with Nomex honeycomb, Rohacell, Divinycell, and balsa, and the Sandwich Panel tool's core picker now pulling from it with a "Save as new core" shortcut
Faster laminate recalculation - repeated stiffness transforms are now reused
Various smaller bug fixes and improvements
v1.3.1
Hygrothermal fixes and strain display
August 3, 2026
Computed midplane strain now displays in µε (microstrain) instead of a unitless value, with correct precision for small values
CME (moisture expansion) unit notation corrected to m/m per kg/kg, with clearer field tooltips
Implausible CME values now show a warning instead of failing silently
If you entered CTE or CME values before this update, worth double-checking them: a few were off by 100x or more, likely from entering a percentage or ppm figure where a plain fraction was expected
Various smaller bug fixes and improvements
